EAC SECRETARY GENERAL'S CEO FORUM

REGIONAL SG CEO FORUM : WEDNESDAY 27TH FEBRUARY 2013 AT SHERATON HOTEL IN KAMPALA, UGANDA. EAC SECRETARY GENERAL REGIONAL PRIVATE SECTOR CEO FORUM REGIONAL MEETING, 27th February 2013, Sheraton Hotel, KAMPALA, UGANDA EAC SECRETARY GENERAL’S CEO FORUM BACKGROUND The Secretary General’s CEO Forum (SG CEO Forum) is a unique forum bringing together Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of businesses in the region with the EAC Secretary General. The main objective of the SG CEO Forum is to provide a platform for regular dialogue between the EAC Secretary General and the business community on how to improve the EAC integration process and business operating environment in the EAC in order to increase the economic growth and development of the region. The SG CEO Forum which comprises of 5 National Fora and one regional forum held annually, is hosted by East African Business Council (EABC) in partnership TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) and EAC Secretariat since they share one objective of fostering the interests of the business community in the EAC Integration process. EABC brings together, at the EAC regional level, the broadest membership of businesses from various sectors, drawn from the 5 EAC Partner States. EABC members comprise 52 Associations who include the 5 national private sector umbrella bodies; manufacturers, employers, bankers, transporter and women associations; Chambers of Commerce; SME associations and the Confederation of Informal Sectors in the EAC, among others. EABC also has 120 individual corporate companies, also drawn from the 5 Partner States. EABC’s mission is to represent and promote the interests of the EAC business community; provide value added services that create new business opportunities and to influence public policies with a view to improving the business environment. TMEA is an organisation dedicated to promoting and supporting regional trade and economic integration in East Africa by working closely with the EAC Secretariat, Institutions, national governments and business and civil society organizations. TMEA has its headquarters in Nairobi with offices in Arusha, Bujumbura, Dar es Salaam, Juba, Kampala and Kigali. TMEA seeks to support East African integration by unlocking economic potential through a reduction in transport and related costs along the key corridors in East Africa; supporting EAC institutions to develop a comprehensive framework for regional integration; supporting partner states to substantially increase the implementation of a comprehensive framework for regional integration; and engaging private sector and civil society to positively influence regional integration policies and practices for growth in trade. To date, 5 National SG’s CEO Fora have been held in the five EAC Partner States as follows:- Nairobi, Kenya- 16th April 2012 1. Kigali, Rwanda- 23rd July 2012 2.
