REF: CREDIT RATING FOR THE (MSME’s) JUA KALI SECTOR

We are happy to inform you that we have launched a joint initiative between Metropol East Africa (a Credit Rating Agency) and ourselves with the aim of availing access to affordable credit to all the Jua Kali Associations members and the micro and small enterprise sector in general.

We recognize that the Micro and Small Entrepreneurs need to access affordable credit to help them finance their working capital needs and growth, hence the said credit rating initiative for the MSME’s will assist the members to:

Find easier to access credit from banks and trade credit suppliers or more capital from development banks and venture capitals

Improve their internal systems and processes making them attractive to corporate firms wanting to do business with them

Well rated MSME’s may have collateral requirement relaxed and borrow at lower rates.
Credit Rating will also contribute to lowering of borrowing and make disbursements of loans faster

The Credit Rating System for the msme sector is meant to stimulate lending to the sector in East Africa

The above initiative is one of many which we are undertaking with a view of addressing some key pertinent issues impacting negatively on real progress and growth of the Jua Kali sector in the country.

the above initiative has been running since 2007

the Blue MSME’s Jua Kali Individual Retirement Benefits Scheme for workers in the Jua Kali (Informal Economic Sector) in Kenya comes into operation . The name blue represents the twenty shilling contribution amounts that the members of the scheme will be expected to contribute daily for them to make a meaningful savin...g for retirement. The scheme will be run under the tag ‘mbao pension plan’
The above launch targeting the over 8 million of Kenyans working in the Jua Kali or informal sector will be followed shortly by a national education program which shall be conducted jointly with other stakeholders to raise awareness on the need for savings for retirement among the (MSEs) informal economic sector players in the country, hence contributing to the country’s economic growth.

The Jua Kali MSE Sector has lived up to the challenge of setting up their own scheme; I take this opportunity to most sincerely thank all our stakeholders for their support.

Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to you all
